Chiron (Alpha Centauri B III) is an Earthlike world surveyed by the Federation in the original 2008-09 exploration of the Alpha Centauri system. The planet is somewhat colder and significantly drier than Earth, but is still more hospitable to Earth-based life than any other place in the Alpha Centauri system.
Settlement was officially opened in 2014 with the conclusion of the Boskone War. By 2015, 35,000 people lived on the surface, with another 700 living at the Deep Space Four station in high orbit. The largest city on Chiron is the town of Saganville, with an estimated population of 12,500 in 2015.
