Run by Larry Williams (a former airline pilot), Orbital Air operates a passenger and freight service from Earth to Luna. Larry and his nephew Mark each head flight crews that alternate trips.
Originally, service was from Perth to Moonbase Alpha three times a week (departing Perth Monday, Wednesday and Friday, returning Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday), aboard a single modified C-97, dubbed the USS Danube by Mark, that can carry 40-60 passengers in conditions approximating business-class air travel.[1] Unfortunately, the in-flight movies are limited to Star Trek reruns by a quirk of the aircraft.
Since the end of 2012, Orbital Air has expanded its fleet to four spacecraft: the original USS Danube and the A510 Starclippers USS Rio Grande, USS Rubicon, and USS Volga. This has allowed the routes flown by the company to include Perth/Kandor and Sydney/Kandor, still on a three-times-per-week schedule. Mark still flies half of the Perth/Alpha runs.
As of 2012, a return flight cost about $120, and a single either way costs about $100 (all prices in US dollars). Package deal holidays including travel aboard the USS Danube and accommodation with hotel rooms in Moonbase Alpha and tours of Luna sites of interest have been available since late-2012.
