Given hardtech's current inability to easily affect gravity by means other than shifting masses around, and large masses if they want human noticeable changes, the method by which handwavium devices can effect, generate or cancel gravity fields is even more poorly understood than a great deal of 'wavetech. There seem to be several different ways that it is done, often corresponding to the methods described in the works of fiction favored by the the people who 'waved up the drive.
