The Galactic Republic is the second-largest of the organized factions. The Warsies are also more militarily inclined, organizing along troop battalions (read: stormtroopers retconned into “Alliance Clone Troopers” to maintain a friendlier face) and engaging in exercise maneuvers to keep their edges sharp.

Unlike the nearly-self-sufficient Feds, the Warsies are primarily a military faction. Many of its members have “normal” lives, even part-time careers in other places or pursuits, but they wear their cog wheels (the nickname of the gear-like design of the Republic logo) with pride, and identify themselves as per their rank and posting in the Warsie military.

Not quite a militia, not quite a standing army, people who interact over time with Warsie folk get the feeling that they’re waiting for something. This feeling is correct. In the event of an extrasolar incursion, the Warsies have several plans and impressively large caches of material for prosecution of military action.

As the Boskonian problem wore on and worsened, more and more Warsie ships were put into action against this threat, and more Warsie factioners could be found in crew slots on non-Warsie fighting ships. While publicity and interest primarily focused on the big names and flashy tactics of the SMOFs, the Warsies were the unsung backbone of the Boskone War.

While the Warsies don’t keep to themselves nearly as much as the Feds, they do maintain multiple ships that are Warsie crewed and commanded at all times.

The “short-lived conflict” mentioned in the entry on the Federation is still a bone of contention with the Warsies, though with the signing of the Treaty of Algeron, this has died down to the level of “friendly rivalry.” This change in attitude has been supported by the increased military activity by both factions against a common enemy, which Warsies call the Sith.

The Warsies are the current holder of the “Stirrup Cup,” a small-craft piloting trophy awarded to the winning team of the All-Hallows-Eve Asteroid Race (an event occurring on October 31st of each year to commemorate and enforce the demilitarization of the Trekkie-Warsie conflict).

History

(start at 2008, start new paragraphs at the start and end of the Boskone War so that the material for Season 0, Season 1, and Season 2 are separated)

  • 501st Legion knew where to find most of the FIAWOL Warsies, and ended up organizing them during the construction of New Yavin.
  • Boskone War happened.
  • Official move of most "civilians" to Mimas after the war - some Yavinites and Eisleyans who were supposed to move staged a mini-Rebellion and stayed put. Green and Rogue Squadrons (respectively) refused to force them to leave.

Politics

Government The unicameral Government of the Galactic Republic consists of the Republican Senate, with a Chancellor of the Senate as Head of State. The Senate is directly elected, with each Republic outpost and settlement having the right to send a single senator to Senate on their behalf. Elections were originally held at a minimum of every 3 standard Earth years. With the foundation of Coruscant on Mimas, this was adapted to match the orbital period of Mimas, lengthening slightly to 1200 Miman orbits

Election the the position of Chancellor is through an electoral college method, ensuring that the interests of small settlements and outposts are not overwhelmed. The Chancellor has constitutionally limited powers, exercises the majority of their power on the advice of the government. The only discretionary power available to the chancellor is to Veto laws passed by the Senate, should they belive them to be unconstitutional.

Parties Two major political parties dominate the politics of the Republic; The Republican Party, and the Imperialist Party. Both are arguably exactly what they say on the tin. The Imperial Party places a strong emphasis on the rule of law, harsh but fair enforcement and a strong military. They are expansionist, and led the founding of Coruscant on Mimas and push for accelerated Extra-Solar colonisation. Detractors call them the Stormtrooper Party, or Palpatine's Lackeys... and not without reason.

The Republican party is more home-focused, and favour a more measured approach to law enforcement. They are more measured and cautious, believing in fortifying and expanding existing settlements and growing an existing economy rather than aggressively expanding and overstretching themselves. They're most notable achievement is the reconstruction of New-Yavin. They have never quite shaken the smell of corruption and stagnation cast by the prequel movies.

Smaller parties and independants exist, but without the support of the larger blocs they have little influence.

The Galactic Republic specifically has no constitutional method to enact emergency powers or martial law. The provisions were removed from the constitution shortly after the beginning of the Boskone war by a senate concerned that the emergency powers provisions would be abused.

(start with the internal politics - form of government, existing groups/blocs/parties, etc.)

Armed Forces of the Republic

Republic military spending is the largest of any faction in Fenspace, and has been since the early days of the Boskone War. It exceeds that of the Federation and the Roughriders combined. This has been a source of much criticism

Arguably this is more due to the gross inefficiencies and within the Republic military machine, which is only slightly larger than Starfleet in standing strength.

  • Space Forces operate under the Tarkin Doctrine, with an emphasis on being obviously large and intimidating. It's doubtful even the largest Star Destroyer has the firepower to hurt a well dug-in asteroid-based facility, but even the threat of a full Base-Delta-Zero bombardment from the Navy is enough to encourage a Zwilnik to surrender peacefully. Rumours of a Death Star are, so far, unfounded.
  • Ground forces are formed up from the original 501st Legion. Training is based at the Imperal Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy
  • The majority of ship construction facilities are privately owned, based out of Mos Eisley, or the Correllian yards.

(the armed forces - who are they, how powerful are they, what do they do when they're not fighting a war, where are they based, what do they use, what citations do they award - most of this should be in its own article, with a capsule-and-link on the main page)

Known Warsie Fighter Squadrons

Dedicated Republic squadrons defend major Republic installations.

Based on Mimas
Red Squadron
The elite squadron. Only flies X-Wings.
Blue Squadron
Based in New Yavin
Green Squadron
Led by ace pilot Cal Calrissian, Green Squadron defends both New Yavin and the Warsies' base on Luna.
Based in Mos Eisley
Rogue Squadron
The Galactic Republic's main Martian defence force. Rogue Squadron was one of the most decorated units during the Boskone War, responsible for saving hundreds of people from the Catgirling Machines.
Rouge Squadron
Officially the 801st Training Squadron, "Rouge Squadron" was a typo in official correspondence which some Humorists and Bubblegum Crisis fans in the faction insisted on making it a real squadron. While they're primarily an aerobatics team, Rouge Squadron is trained for combat.
Based at the Jedi Academy
Paisley Squadron
A training squadron, lead by an ever-changing "honor guard" of pilots recovering from major wounds. (Actual defence of the Jedi Academy is provided by Green Squadron.)

Awards

The Galactic Republic awards many citations for bravery, but only these two have been awarded to people outside of the faction.

Order of Yavin
The Order of Yavin is awarded for meritorious service against vastly superior odds.
Kalidor Crescent
The Kalidor Crescent is awarded for meritorious piloting above and beyond the call of duty. Perhaps the best-known recipient of this award is Jedi Knight Lou Chadwick, who was awarded the Kalidor Crescent during the Boskone War for repeatedly interposing his own X-Wing between a Boskonian battlewagon and a Galactic Republic medevac ship until the medical ship could escape.

Warsies who receive either Order of Yavin or the Kalidor Crescent are entitled to call themselves "Jedi" and are given their choice of assignments with the award.

Relations with other factions

  • Ill relations with the Federation. Hard to do business with both parties.

Demographics

(start with population and largest settlement)

Galactic Republic Shuttle leaving Mimas
Compared to the Browncoats or the Senshi, the Galactic Republic prefers to maintain a relatively small number of relatively large bases.

The oldest Warsie settlement is the New Yavin station in Earth-Luna L5 orbit. One of the oldest stations of any sort in Fenspace (being of the same vintage as Starbase 1 and Stellvia), New Yavin is declining in importance but is still a major point-of-presence for the faction in Cislunar Space.

The largest Republic colony is also the one farthest from Earth - Coruscant, the faction's capital, is located on Mimas.

The other two major Warsie settlements have specialized purposes. Mos Eisley on Mars is the faction's major industrial center, while the Jedi Academy in the Oceanus Procellarum on Luna is their major educational facility.

Ethnic groups

(list the prominent and notable groups - Primarily anglophone white nerds to begin with, because that's the nature of early Fandom, but Fenspace starts to change in Season 2)

Biomods

(list the prominent and notable groups - roughly 1.3% of the overall Fenspace population are biomodded as of the end of Season 2)

Subgroups

Culture

  • The Light and Dark side of the force dominate Republican thinking. The Light side dominate, preaching moderation and temperance in all things, and maintaining a peaceful and even life. Dark side followers embrace their passions and desires as a part of themselves, and are altogether a lot less stuck up. A politician's alingment is almost as important to the electorate as their party membership

Calling any individual a Sith however, is the equivalent of invoking Godwins law.

For the Republic, nothing is ever finished. The effect of this is most obvious on the Republic military, where constant refits and modernisations and touchups have at times kept half the fleet in dock, and caused the military budget to balloon. Buildings in Corscant are finished, then renovated within six months as new techniques and technologies come available. Manufacturers in the Republic need to be seen to be at the cutting edge, with constant updating and refreshing of existing designs, while older models are quickly discarded, sold out of the fandom or to those who might not quite be wealthy enough to buy the latest and greatest.

A small counter-movement exists, focused around resisting this tendency and slowing down the chaos, who still believe that the original, unaltered version of the Star Wars trilogy is the best version. They are regarded as unfashionable by the majority.

(what do they do? why do they do it? keep in mind the "stereotype" line in the faction box, but don't be straitjacketed by it)

Psychology and stereotypes

(develop that "stereotype" line in the faction box)

Religion

(if there's an official religion, give it a quick description; otherwise, discuss what religions if any are practiced by noticeable groups in the faction)

Notable Faction Members

(a quick "term and definition" style list, with links to the character pages)

Based in Coruscant

General Dana Maeter
Commander of the Republic Army. Partial Cyborg (The result of an unfortunate accident during an OGJ operation against a Boskonian production base), as she had a previously undetected biomod that prevented the usual lifesaving methods being used. Quiet, businesslike, chooses her words carefully, a damn fine organizer of troops from army to squad scales, but also very solitary. Because of her looks and public personality, occasionally called "Sith Lord Fate Testarossa" by some Generalist Fen (but never to her face).

Based in New Yavin

"General Solo"
Station Commander
Cal Calrissian
Squadron Leader, Green Squadron. Rank Captain, Callsign "Green One"

Based in Mos Eisley

"General Murleen"
Chief Administrator
